Synopsis:
Burger Inspector ’94: Cheese Edition is an experimental narrative game in which you embody a quality assurance worker at a fast food company. Your task is to inspect a single burger, but what begins as a typical work shift may soon turn surreal and slightly horrific.
Linking various ideas such as the body, consciousness, and consumption, Burger Inspector ’94: Cheese Edition seeks to highlight the violence and oppression intrinsic to capitalist economies. Furthermore, this title situates itself among growing niche genres such as workplace and interface horror.
Origins:
Burger Inspector '94: Cheese Edition was developed during the Eat (the) Rich! Game Jam for A MAZE Berlin: 13th International Games & Playful Media Festival. The game was exhibited online and in-person during the festival in Berlin, Germany from May 8th - 11th, 2024. All game submissions may be viewed here:

Further Exhibition:
Burger Inspector '94: Cheese Edition was also accepted to the group exhibition, Glitch'N'Games, curated by Bee Nix as a component of their MFA thesis. The exhibition took place at LIKELIKE Neo-Arcade & Playful Arts Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA on October 4th, 2024.
Nix writes, "This response echoed one of the exhibition's recurring questions: when systems break or resist interpretation, what compels us to keep playing? Burger Inspector doesn't answer - it performs the question (Nix, 38)." Nix's complete MFA thesis may be read via The Internet Archive here:
