Burger Inspector ’94: Cheese Edition is an experimental video game in which the player embodies a quality assurance worker at a fast food company. Their task is to inspect a single burger, but what begins as a typical work shift soon turns surreal, existential, and slightly horrific. Linking various ideas such as the body, consciousness, and consumption, this game seeks to highlight the violence and oppression intrinsic to capitalist economies. Furthermore, this title situates itself among the growing niche genres of workplace and interface horror.
Burger Inspector ’94: Cheese Edition was exhibited at the A MAZE./Berlin 2024: 13th International Games and Playful Media Festival from May 8th - 11th, 2024 as part of the Eat(the)Rich! Game Jam.
It was also exhibited as part of Glitch’N’Games, a juried group exhibition, at LIKELIKE Neo-Arcade & Playful Arts Gallery, Pittsburgh, PA.
